Hot Tea Month Finds

“Tea to the English is really a picnic indoors.” Alice Walker

Tea is so versatile: black, white, green, blue (yes I said blue, more commonly oolong), chai, iced, herbal, for breakfasts, elevensies, afternoon teas, nightcaps and always in a crisis. And if, like me, you love tea then these tea inspired home decor finds celebrate January as the month of hot tea and the fantastic idea of an indoor picnic.

Reusing Christmas Wrapping Paper

I love Christmas and one of my favourite parts is wrapping presents, I’ve been known to wrap individual socks from multipacks and people joke about me owning shares in wrapping paper and sticky tape companies!

But once the presents are open what to do with all that gorgeous Christmas wrapping paper – the bin? Nooooo! Get some cute ideas for Christmas crafting (and reusing that wrapping paper) while you wait for lunch to cook from this special Pinterest Board.

Christmas Cards in a Flash

It can be hard to find time for crafting during the silly season but if you replace shopping with crafting you can still get some awesome presents and personalised cards.

Bunting Christmas Card

Last year I made incredibly easy cards using photographs (see here) this year I’m putting in just a tad more effort with these sweet felt picture cards.

Christmas Card Christmas Tree

  1. Collect felt, scissors, glue and blank cards with co-ordinating envelopes
  2. Cut and stick your shapes, my favourite is the tri-colour bunting!
  3. Give generously

Moustache Pin Cushion

Pinned Moustache Pin Cushion

What could possibly be more fun and cute than a felt moustache pin cushion? Ok, videos of baby animals doing tricks but I can’t fit a 6ft giraffe in my inner city one bedroom. Plus what tops off this pin cushion is just how easy it is to make; a scrap of felt, needle, embroidery floss, scissors and some padding (proper professional filler or even cotton wool will do)

Moustache Pin Cushion Supplies
1) Cut out two pieces of your desired moustache – choose here, I went for the classic Connoisseur

Cute Felt Moustaches
2) Place back to back and blanket stitch until about 1/2 to 3/4 done
3) Fill and continue stitching until you’re finished.
4) PIN!

Speaking of pinning why not pin this for later and find me on Pinterest here.

Melbourne Cup Fascinator

I had big plans this year for my handmade Melbourne Cup fascinator, peacock feathers, ribbon and lots of sparkle, but alas October got away from me and I ended up with only a short time to design a new idea; something I could put together quickly, very quickly.

Make a Melbourne Cup Fasinator

  1. Start by gathering your supplies, an endless amount of beads, a bit of material and cardboard, ribbon, scissors, needle and thread, and glue, lots of glue.
  2. Arrange your beads into a design and decide exactly how big you want your piece.
  3. Cut the cardboard and 2 pieces of the material just slightly bigger than the finished size.
  4. Sew on any large or heavy beads and then double up with a touch of glue.
  5. Decorate with glued on smaller beads, trim to your finished size and add a touch of hand sewn blanket stitch around the edge and glue some ribbon on the back to finish.

Make a Fascinator

Ta da, one sweet looking easy fascinator just in time for Melbourne Cup. Can’t wait to wear it with my snazzy outfit.

Make a Fascinator Headpiece

And after Melbourne Cup Day I’ll convert it to a statement necklace.
